Home Wind Turbine
A home wind turbine can be built and installed from scratch in less than a week while pre-manufactured models can be installed in an afternoon. There are various levels of quality, different sizes, and configurations available for home use. The wind turbine has been used to generate power long before electricity became easy to produce and widely available by converting wind power to mechanical energy used to crush grains as well as other mechanical tasks such as pumping water from a well.
A modern home wind turbine is typically used to generate electricity although they can still be set up for mechanical purposes it is much rarer. The higher the rotors are in the air and the size of the windswept area directly contribute to the amount of power generated although there are a number of smaller factors that can affect the amount of power produced. Some turbines are ineffective in extremely high winds but incredibly efficient in low winds.
Before installing a home wind turbine it is important to accurately survey the area to find the most effective spot for installation. Large towers are expensive and there should be at least a year of wind readings taken before proceeding with installation. Smaller systems can forgo this process, but may benefit from a small amount of readings in various places of the property but when in doubt put it as high as possible with no trees or buildings blocking it in any direction.
